Enrolling in a JEE coaching institute is a large commitment of money and time, so it deserves proper checking before you pay. A few careful steps can save you from a bad fit that only becomes clear months later.

Attend a demo class

A demo class is the single most useful check. It shows you how the teacher explains, how the class is managed, and whether the pace suits you. Sit through a full session, not just the opening minutes, and notice whether doubts are answered or brushed aside.

Ask who will teach your actual batch. Some institutes use their best teachers for demo classes and different staff for regular batches. Confirm the names of the teachers for your batch and whether they stay for the whole course.

Talk to current and former students

Students already enrolled will tell you what no brochure will. Ask about batch sizes, how often tests are held, how quickly doubts are cleared, and whether the material is updated. Ask former students whether they would enrol again, and why.

Be wary of cherry-picked testimonials. A balanced picture comes from several students, including those who struggled. If an institute discourages you from speaking to its students, that itself is an answer.

Inspect the material and tests

Ask to see the study material, a sample test paper and a sample analysis report. Good material is organised, clearly written and free of errors; a good analysis shows where marks were lost and what to fix, not just a score.

Check how often tests are held and whether the schedule is actually followed. An institute that promises weekly tests but runs them irregularly is not giving you the practice you are paying for.

Read the terms in writing

Before paying, get the full terms in writing: the complete fee, what is included, the refund policy, the instalment schedule, and the rules for pausing, switching batches or repeating a year. Ask plainly about anything unclear, and keep a copy of the signed terms with your receipt.

Pay by a traceable method and check your statement afterwards to confirm the amount matches what was agreed. If any term is refused in writing, walk away; an institute confident in its service has no reason to hide its terms.

Check the teaching, the students, the material and the terms before you enrol. The institute that welcomes scrutiny is usually the one worth joining.
